Set off on a one-of-a-kind adventure along the shores of Lake Winnisquam aboard a custom four-person Rail Bike. Immerse yourself in the fresh New Hampshire air as you pedal away from the city, gliding alongside the stunning lakeside scenery. Departing from Laconia Station, you will witness the beauty and rich history of New Hampshire’s Lakes Region. Enjoy a leisurely ride on custom-made rail bikes along a historic rail line dating back to 1848. Experience a picturesque 5-mile round-trip journey that begins and ends at the historic Laconia Railroad Station, which first opened its doors in 1892 and operated until the late 1960s. Embrace a new way to appreciate the captivating beauty and history of New Hampshire’s Lakes Region with your family and friends!

Our rail bikes operate May through October, allowing you to capture Spring, Summer and Fall in the beautiful New Hampshire Lakes Region.

Cost:

  • Our Rail Bikes are four (4) seaters. When you rent one (1) Rail Bike, you get all four (4) seats. Please make sure you read all the Terms & Conditions listed below. 
  • We can accommodate special trips for larger groups. Trip departure time and length of tours can be customized for your group outing. Picnic lunch trips are also available. If you are interested in a group outing, please call to book your reservation at (603) 745-2135 (for groups renting five rail bikes or more).

What To Bring:

  • Weather appropriate clothing & camera
  • Water or other refreshments, alcohol is not permitted
  • Sunscreen
  • Light jacket or poncho

Ride Requirements & information:

  • You MUST arrive 30 minutes before the scheduled tour to fill out paperwork and to have enough time to find parking. Please note that parking space is limited in our downtown area
  • Pre-paid tickets will be available for pick-up in the rail bike office in the Depot
  • Liability waivers will be available on-site and are required before riding. Any rider under 18 must have a liability waiver signed by a parent or guardian
  • The maximum weight is 250 pounds (per rider)
  • No infants, children under 4 years old, individuals under 48 inches in height, or pets of any kind are permitted on this excursion
  • No alcohol, smoking, or vaping is allowed
  • At least 1 person must be 18 years of age in each rail bike
  • There is one storage basket available at the front of the bike. It is large enough to accommodate one large backpack for the entire group.
  • Closed toe shoes required

Covid 19 Update

Regrettably, due to rising COVID-19 numbers in the State of New Hampshire, and out of an abundance of caution, the Hobo and Winnipesaukee Railway has made the hard decision to cancel our remaining train rides for the 2020 season. All passengers who have purchased tickets will be contacted over the course of the next several days and will have the option of a full refund, or credit toward future excursions. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and we look forward to seeing you in 2021.
